Protecting, preserving and improving water quality and quantity throughout the County Information gathered through water testing

Areas currently being tested within the County on an annual basis:

    - Eureka north and south
    - Montagneuse River
    - Willow Creek
    - Clear River

Other areas that have been tested are:

     -selected dugouts
    - the lake feeding Hines Creek's water supply
    - several creeks running into George Lake

Problem areas identified:
  • George Lake is currently being examined for possible solutions to the continuous algae blooms it experiences in the summer. It is advised that people do not swim in the lake due to blue-green algae.
  • Dugout water quality has also been identified as problematic in the region We will try to get as much information to the public as possible to help with this issue.

State of the Watershed Reports

Download State of the Watershed Report here.
It is a large pdf format download.

Currently based on our testing we have not found any major problem areas to date. Our tests show that there are low to no concentrations of herbicides found in our streams. Erosion may be problematic in some areas however and we are examining solutions to this problem. For test results and more information access our State of the Watershed Report in the above link.

Actions being taken:

- Continued testing of water quality.
- Examining ways to cleanup or recycle waste around the County.
- Participating in local watershed education activities.
